School of Medical and Biomedical Sciences
The mission of the School of Health and Pharmacy is to prepare health and pharmacy professionals who are committed to provide high-quality, ethical, and empathetic patient-centered care. The combination of core sciences, critical thinking skills, management skills and effective communication enable the School to prepare future pharmacists to be strong patient advocates and leading health and pharmacy professionals in their communities. The programs prepare students to be active leading health specialists and pharmacists from community pharmacies to hospitals, schools and industries.
Nursing Program
The Nursing Program is to prepare students to become experts in the healthcare industry. Students are equipped with the necessary professional and ethical skills to care for people who are sick, injured, convalescent or disabled under the direction of doctors. At the end of the program students are able to provide basic bedside care, which include the ability to:
+ Apply nursing skills, concepts, and judgment in selected clinical settings
+ Performs a variety of basic procedures based on sound scientific evidence
+ Monitor, measure and perform dressing changes for a variety of wounds
+ Administer medication via a variety of different routes
+ Coordinate care with other disciplines to revolve around a patient-centered approach
+ Teach the client and family skills and practices which can be used following discharge
+ Administer palliative care and provide support, and
+ Comfort to the client and family when death is the inevitable outcome
In as little as 18 months you can get quick entry into the nursing field. You will receive hands-on experience and excellent instruction and at the end you will be prepared to take the National Nursing Exam to become a State Registered Nurse.
Pharmacy Program
At the end of your two years (for Advanced Diploma) and three year (for PharmB) in the program you will earn a degree in Pharmacy that can opens new doors for you in your career. You are required to complete a pharmacy technician training program that is approved by the government. In the Pharmacy program you will study core courses in computer applications, keyboarding, success strategies, management principles, career skills, and portfolio development. You will also take general education courses in composition, algebra, psychology, environmental science, and communications. The major courses will teach you about medication administration, medical terminology, nutrition, anatomy, and pharmacology. The program also include two internships that help students gain hands-on experience in the field of pharmacy.
